Membership Requirements
The requirement for becoming a Regular Member of the ALA is that one must be a full-time legal administrator or support manager employed in a private law firm, legal service clinic, corporate legal department, university legal department, governmental legal agency, court system, charitable legal agency or some other organization engaged primarily in the practice of law.
Practicing lawyers, such as managing partners or chair of a firm's executive committee of a private law firm, general counsel in a corporate legal department, or head of a governmental agency legal department, are eligible if 75% of their working time is committed to executive management responsibilites.
Associate Membership is available to individuals who do not meet the above criteria for regular membership. See the Membership Criteria and Classes section of the Application for Membership.
